Happy New Year Everyone!
I know December was lacking as far as blog updates go, but I was still in recovery mode from November. Now I’m trying to get back in the swing of things and what better way than setting new writing goals for myself and reflecting on the accomplishments of the last year.
One year ago I started to keep a regularly updated blog. I began with one of my favorite posts recommending Writer Podcasts. While I didn’t always keep my goal of weekly posts, I’m still here and the blog is still here- so that’s pretty damn cool.
It took a while but I eventually wrote about my own writing goals. By the end of the year, I managed to get almost everything done! I’m shocked by the amount of writing, editing, and milestones I achieved. And I truly believe it was this list, the encouragement of the #writercommunity, and the inspiration of my fellow writers that helped me get so much done.
As we go into the new year it is time for all writers to set down their new goals and face them with optimism. Forget the failures of the previous year and start fresh. Write down your own goals (either in a blog post or in a journal) so you can codify how you feel now at the beginning of the year. It doesn’t have to be a long list and you can always add to it! I recommend looking at your goals at the beginning of every month to remind yourself of what you’re aiming for.
With that said, here are my goals for this upcoming year.
– Write Collection of Short Stories (at least five.)
– Continue Querying
– Get an Agent
– Finish Rewrite of Science Fiction Story
– Attend Writing Conference
– Read 40 Books
– Run Half Marathon (Full Marathon?)
– Be Kinder to Self
– Finish MA
– Enjoy last year in Hawaii
2019 has a lot in it I’m excited about. Great movies, highly anticipated video games, amazing books, and so much POTENTIAL. I can’t help but feel like 2019 is going to be an amazing year!
What are some of your goals for the year? How do you plan on getting them done? Good luck fellow writers! Keep the momentum up and keep writing!
If you need some inspiration, Leigh Bardugo (one of my all-time favorite writers) encourages people with #BAYMTGO. Check it out and feel the inspiration!
